THE AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS - COMMON QUESTIONS

Are the standards law?

A. No, only Western Australia requires compliance with standards for security doors at this time.

The security door standard has a number of tough tests that doors claiming to meet Australian Standards have to pass.

Lever tests, jemmy tests, pull tests and impact tests are examples of some of the testing done for compliance to the standards.

How many categories or types of doors are included in the standards?

Type 1
Any door that prevents the entry of hands or arms through the door structure.

Type 2
Any security door that prevents bodily entry.

Type 3
Any security door that prevents the entry of anything larger than - for example - a matchstick, and is capable of meeting the standards tests for security doors.
